Taxi hijacked at knifepoint in Ballymun at 2.30am

A small amount of cash was stolen during the incident.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a taxi was hijacked at knifepoint in Ballymun.

The incident occurred shortly after 2.30am today.

Two men, aged 21 and 20, were being taken by taxi from O’Connell St in Dublin city centre to Ballymun at the time.

As the taxi entered Ballymun, the passenger in the back seat threatened the taxi driver with a knife.

He ordered the driver out of the vehicle. A small amount of cash was stolen during the incident.

The male taxi driver was uninjured. He alerted gardaí, and following a search of the area the taxi was located on the old airport road close to Ballymun.

Two men were subsequently arrested nearby in connection with this incident and are currently detained at Mountjoy Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 .
