COUNTING IN THE 2011 general election enters its second day and we have the latest from the constituencies that are still in play.
Follow all the latest developments here as the final seats in the 31st Dáil are filled:
1. Galway West
Update 7.25pm: Re-examination and recount of all ballot papers has gotten underway. There will be no result announced until Monday morning.
Update 7pm: Recount due to begin soon.
Update 4.10pm: Fine Gael’s Fidelma Healy Eames has requested a recount and the count has now been adjourned until 6.30pm.
Update 3.45pm: Derek Nolan elected for Labour on the tenth count. Three more seats to be filled here.
Update 12.55pm: Four more seats to fill with Labour’s Derek Nolan expected to take the next seat.
Update 12.45pm: Fianna Fáil’s Eamon O’Cuiv has been elected on the eighth count.
Update 11.30am: Fianna Fáil’s Frank Fahey has been excluded on the seventh count.
Update 10.45am: The seventh count has resumed with no seats yet filled. Fine Gael confident it will take the final seat ahead of independent Catherine Connolly.
Nobody has been elected following the fifth count for this five-seater. Counting will begin again at 9am on Sunday morning.
Ten candidates remain in the race for the five seats here. Labour’s Derek Nolan still has an edge over Fianna Fail’s Eamon O’Cuiv by just over 200 hundred votes.
Independent candidate, and former Progressive Democrat, Noel Grealish is in third place and is followed by Fine Gael’s Brian Walsh.
Another independent, Catherine Connolly, is next but may lose out to one of the three other Fine Gael candidates for the fifth seat.
2. Laois Offaly
Update 11.10pm: Recount was ongoing into the early hours of Monday. There will be no result announced until at least the morning.
Update 6.40pm: Decision expected at 7.15pm on whether or not full recount will go ahead tonight or tomorrow.
Update 6.10pm: Confirmed that Fine Gael seeking a full recount.
Update 6pm: Fine Gael candidate Liam Quinn says he will seek a full recount in Laois-Offaly if margin is less than 50 votes which it reportedly is.
Update 5.15pm: Heading for a possible recount in Laois-Offaly. Reportedly, 16 votes between Fine Gael’s Liam Quinn Fianna Fáíl’s John Maloney, according to Danielle Harney from the Offaly Independent.
Update 3.55pm: Independent John Leahy has been excluded on the ninth count
Update 1.55pm: Charlie Flanagan elected on the eighth count for Fine Gael.
Update 12.30pm: Fine Gael’s John Moran has been eliminated on the seventh count.
Update 10.45am: 13 of 21 candidates remain this morning with no one yet elected.
Counting was suspended with no one elected. It looks like Charlie Flanagan and Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy will be elected as Fine Gael TDs.
Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowen and Sean Fleming will also be elected with Sinn Féin’s Brian Stanley the favourite so far for the last seat.
3. Wicklow
ADJOURNED FOR FULL RECOUNT TO START TOMORROW MORNING AT 9AM
Update 6.35pm: Dick Roche eliminated but has requested recount which will begin at 9am tomorrow morning.
Update 6.10pm: Talk that Fianna Fáil’s Dick Roche and Pat Fitzgerald could be next to be eliminated.
Update 3.45pm: The Green Party’s Niall Byrne and independent Peter Dempsey have been eliminated on the eleventh count.
Update 2.40pm: We’ve now had the tenth count with still no one elected. Two more independents have fallen by the wayside in the shape of Nicky Kelly and Donal Kiernan who both had votes in the hundreds.
Update 2pm: Independent Pat Kavanagh eliminated after eighth count.
Update 12.55pm: On the sixth count no one has reached the quota with Independent Charlie Keddy eliminated. 18 candidates remain.
Update 12.15pm: Independents Anthony Fitzgerald, Jim Tallon, and Michael Mulvihill have all been excluded here but still plenty of candidates in the running.
Update 10.50am: 22 still in the running here meaning a long day could be ahead. No one is yet elected. Labour’s Anne Ferris to take the fourth seat. Fifth seat could be a toss up with Dick Roche still in the running but he says it will be difficult to make it.
The count was adjourned yesterday with no one having been elected. Fine Gael look on course to secure three seats but with nearly two dozen candidates left it could be a long day.
However it looks as if a notable scalp will be Fianna Fáil’s Dick Roche who has less than a six per cent share of the vote.
4. Galway East
ALL SEATS FILLED IN THIS CONSTITUENCY
Update 10pm: The final count hasn’t given the third FG candidate, Tom McHugh, enough to surpass Keaveney – with McHugh therefore eliminated, Labour’s Colm Keaveney takes the final seat by default.
Update 9.45pm: Count 8 – with Broderick’s votes being distributed – have pushed Fine Gael duo Cannon and Connaughton over the quota; their surpluses are now being distributed.
Update 7.45pm: The recount of the seventh count has seen Tom McHugh come from two votes behind independent Tom Broderick to stand six votes ahead; Broderick is now eliminated and his votes are being distributed.
Update 7pm: Recount underway now with two votes between Fine Gael’s Tom McHugh and Independent Tom Broderick. Expecting the result soon.
Update 4pm: Crona Esler from the Western People tells us that there were fears of second recount this morning because of the two votes that separated Fine Gael’s Tom McHugh from the independent Tim Broderick but those fears have now been allayed and results of a recount are expected at around 5pm.
Likely to be elected are Micheál Kitt, Fianna Fáil, and Fine Gael’s Paul Connaughton and Ciaran Cannon, then comes Colm Keaveny from Labour but there are just a few hundred between Keaveney and Broderick and McHugh.
Once one of the latter two is eliminated things should become a lot more clearer.
Update 2.35pm: No update here with the recount underway since 9am.
Update 10.45am: Counting has resumed.
The count in has been adjourned until 9am on Sunday morning when there will be a recheck.
Fianna Fáil’s Michael Kitt, Fine Gael duo Paul Connaughton and Ciaran Cannon and Labour’s Colm Keaveney all look set to be elected.
But just two votes separate Fine Gael’s Tom McHugh from the independent Tim Broderick on the seventh count, and McHugh was set to be eliminated.
All of the votes of the remaining seven candidates will now be rechecked to ensure that each candidate has received the right votes.

Update 3pm: Richard Boyd-Barrett elected for People Before Profit to the final seat in Dún Laoghaire. Fianna Fáil’s Mary Hanafin loses her seat.
Update 2.25pm: Fine Gael’s Mary Mitchell-O’Connor takes the third seat. One more to go.
Update 1.25pm: It appears Bacik has not been officially eliminated in Dún Laoghaire and a recheck is still underway but it is widely expected that when this is complete she will be eliminated.
Update 1.20pm: Gilmore on Bacik’s elimination: “We got a historic high for Labour in Dún Laoghaire but unfortunately not enough on this occasion.” More from Gilmore on the possible next government.
Update 1pm: Fine Gael’s Mary Mitchell-Connor will likely take the third seat with the battle for the final seat now looking set to be between Richard Boyd-Barrett and Fianna Fáil’s Mary Hanafin.
Update 12.40pm: Fine Gael’s Sean Barrett has been elected on the eight count. Labour’s Ivana Bacik has now been eliminated on the ninth count. Green Party’s Ciaran Cuffe and Fianna Fáil’s Barry Andrews have also been eliminated.
Update 11.40am: The recount is expected to be completed by 2pm. The count will then able to proceed with either Bacik or Boyd-Barrett being eliminated.
Update 11.25am: Correction the recount has only just begun now with the returning officer to check the votes of Sean Barrett and Richard Boyd-Barrett because of the similarity in names.
Update 10.45am: The recount has resumed.
Voting was adjourned yesterday in this four seater after Labour requested a recount with 157 votes separating their Ivana Bacik and People Before Profit’s Richard Boyd-Barrett.
Tourism minister Mary Hanafin also remains in the running for the final seat.
Mary Mitchell-Connor is expected to win the third seat for Fine Gael with colleague Sean Barrett already elected. Labour leader Eamon Gilmore has also been elected.
6. Kerry South
ALL SEATS FILLED IN THIS CONSTITUENCY
Update 2.55pm: Sixth count sees independents Tom Fleming and Michael Healy-Rae elected. Tom Sheahan has lost out for Fine Gael. Final tally sees 1 FG and 2 independents elected.
Update 1.35pm: Fine Gael’s Brendan Griffin elected on the fifth count.
Update 1.15pm: Awaiting the fifth count. Tom Fleming, Independent, and Tom Sheahan, Fine Gael, are expected to battle it out for the final seat.
Update 11.15am: Michael Gleeson from the South Kerry Independent Alliance has been eliminated on the fourth count.
Update 10.45am: Fourth count is to start this morning with John O’Donoghue’s votes to be redistributed. Tom Fleming is expected to be the main beneficiary from these transfers.
No one elected here in this three seat constituency but former Ceann Comhairle John O’Donoghue was most notable for his elimination.
Counting will begin with Fine Gael’s Brendan Griffin currently topping the poll and independents Michael Healy-Rae and Tom Fleming following him.
Then comes FG’s Tom Sheahan who is currently followed by Michael Gleeson for the South Kerry Independent Alliance.
ALL SEATS FILLED IN THIS CONSTITUENCY
Update 4.30pm: Fine Gael’s Phil Hogan, John Paul Phelan, and Pat Deering all elected. Fianna Fáil’s Bobby Aylward eliminated. That completes Carlow-Kilkenny. FG 3, FF 1, Labour 1.
Update 3.20pm: John McGuinness, Fianna Fáil, and Ann Phelan, Labour, have been elected in Carlow-Kilkenny.
Update 2.45pm: No one elected yet but the expectations are that it will be FG 3, FF 1 and Labour 1
Update 12.45pm: No one elected on the eleventh count. Sinn Fein’s Kathleen Funchion has been eliminated.
Update 11.40am: Jennifer Murnane O’Connor, Fianna Fáil, excluded on tenth count.
Update 11am: Counting has resumed.
No one has yet been elected here but it looks as if Fine Gael will take at least two seats in the form of John Paul Phelan and Phil Hogan. John McGuinness is holding on for Fianna Fáil.
Labour’s Ann Phelan may also be elected. Fine Gael could win a third seat through Pat Deering but Fianna Fáil’s Bobby Aylward is battling to hold onto his seat.
ALL SEATS FILLED IN THIS CONSTITUENCY
Update 1.50pm: Michael McGrath elected for Fianna Fáil on the twelfth count to the final seat.
Update 12.25pm: Fine Gael’s Jerry Buttimer elected on the eleventh count.
Update 11.15am: Simon Coveney has been elected on the tenth count for Fine Gael but party colleague Deirdre Clune has been eliminated.
Update 10.45am: The tenth count has begun.
In this five-seater, Micheál Martin has already been re-elected for Fianna Fáil. Labour’s Ciaran Lynch was elected this morning
Fine Gael’s Simon Coveney will also be elected as will colleague Jerry Buttimer but the third Fine Gael candidate Deirdre Clune is expected to lose out with Michael McGrath of Fianna Fáil set to be the unlikely beneficiary of transfer that will put him over the top.
9. Louth
ALL SEATS FILLED IN THIS CONSTITUENCY
Update 1.45pm: Peter Fitzpatrick has been elected for Fine Gael in to the last seat. That’s 2 FG, 1 FF, 1 SF, 1 Labour.
Update 1.15pm: Peter Fitzpatrick, Fine Gael, and James Carroll, Fianna Fáil battling it out for the last seat.
Update 12.45pm: Gerald ‘Ged’ Nash, Labour, elected on count 12.
Update 11.40am: Mary Moran, Labour, has been excluded on the eleventh count.
Update 10.45am: Counting has resumed. We’re on the eleventh count here.
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams and Fine Gael’s Fergus O’Dowd have already been elected here with Ceann Comhairle Seamus Kirk automatically taking a seat.
That leaves two seats to fill with Labour’s Ged Nash and Fine Gael’s Peter Fitzpatrick expected to take them.
