“Our beautiful daughter was taken from us last night in a car accident,” Katie’s father said.

We loved her so very much and I don’t know how we can cope without her.

Speaking this evening on RTÉ’s Six One News, Edel Connolly, principal of the Ursuline School said that Katie was “a wonderful girl”.

She was a very positive, lively outgoing girl and she will be missed terribly.
We’re all in shock today… and we are thinking all day of her family and her siblings and all of her friends.

Two other teenage passengers, a female and male, both aged 17 years, suffered serious injuries and were also brought to University Hospital Waterford.

The male driver of the car, 17, received minor injuries and was taken to University Hospital Waterford. No other injuries were reported.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information us asked to contact them at Tramore Garda 051 391 620, the Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda station.
