Woman dies and three people seriously injured in Kildare car crash

An SUV collided with a car near Youngstown in Kildare earlier this evening.

A 59-YEAR-OLD woman has been killed in a road traffic collision in Kildare.

The woman was driving a car which collided with an SUV on the Kilcullen to Athy road at around 4.30pm this afternoon.

The 16-year-old female front seat passenger in the car was seriously injured.

The male driver of the SUV, who is in his 30s, and his female front seat passenger, who is in her 20s, also received serious injuries.

All three have been taken to Naas General Hospital.

Gardaí have closed off the road between Fontstown Cross and Kilmeade Village and diversions are currently in place.

Anyone who has any information on the collision is asked to contact gardaí in Athy at 059-8634210.

Separately, gardaí named the two people who were killed in separate road traffic collisions in the past 24 hours.

23-year-old Aaron Moore from Celbridge in Kildare was killed in a fatal road traffic collision in Mullingar this morning. Michael Doran (69) from Templemore in Tipperary was killed yesterday evening in a collision in Dooradoyle in Limerick.
