Woman hospitalised after being assaulted by man impersonating garda at roadside robbery

The woman was stopped by a dark coloured Ford Mondeo which had a blue flashing light attached – giving the impression it was a garda car.

A WOMAN HAS been hospitalised after being threatened and assaulted by a man impersonating a garda at a roadside robbery.

It happened at Corramacorra Junction, Murrintown, off the R733 in Wexford at around 6.25 am.

The woman was driving to work when she was stopped by what was described as a dark coloured older type Ford Mondeo which had a blue flashing light attached – giving the impression it was a garda car.

A man impersonating a garda threatened the woman and took a sum of money.

The woman was assaulted by the man during the incident and was taken to Wexford General Hospital for treatment.

The man left the scene in the dark coloured Mondeo which was driven by a second man in the direction of Murrintown.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses that may have seen a car fitting this description in and around the area this morning or to anyone that may be able to assist the gardai with this investigation to contact Wexford Garda Station on 053-9165200, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
