LAST UPDATE | 19 mins ago

GOOD MORNING.

Here’s all the news you need to know as you start your day.

Luas services

1. Green Line Luas services remain suspended this morning as the result of a power failure.

Repair work is to continue this morning, Transdev announced. Red line services are operating as normal. Luas tickets are being accepted on Dublin Bus as services from Broomsbridge to Bridesglen remain out of order.

Immigration

2. This morning, Andrew Walsh reports that Ireland saw a significant fall in overall immigration this year, with net migration dropping by 25% compared to the previous year.

The data outlines that there were fewer new arrivals across most migration channels and major reforms to employment permit rules.

Vigil

3. Hundreds of people attended a vigil in Edenderry last night to mourn 60-year-old Mary Holt and her grand-nephew, four-year-old Tadgh Farrell, who were killed in a petrol bomb attack on Saturday.

Tadgh’s grandmother, Pauline, is still being treated in hospital for serious burns.

Childcare

4. Increased income limits for the National Childcare Scheme are to come into effect in September 2026, which will reduce the childcare bills for tens of thousands of working families on lower incomes.

Venezuela

5. Venezuelan Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado emerged from nearly a year in hiding to greet supporters in Oslo today after she won the Nobel Peace Prize.

It was unclear how Machado managed to travel to Norway, or how she will return after Venezuela said it would consider her a fugitive if she left the country.

Ukraine

6. Ukraine sent Washington an updated plan for ending Russia’s invasion, Ukrainian officials have said, as US President Donald Trump laid into European leaders in the latest sign of a growing transatlantic rift.

The postmortem

7. Taoiseach Micheál Martin told a Fianna Fáil meeting last night that a review into the party’s disastrous presidential election campaign will be published next week.

Martin had said yesterday that the report would be published “before Christmas”.

Enoch Burke

8. If you’re looking for something to listen to this morning, we’ve got you covered. Enoch Burke is, yet again, back in Mountjoy Prison, but this time, the legal stakes for him and his family have risen dramatically.

The Journal’s Factcheck editor Stephen McDermott joined The Explainer podcast to talk all about it.

Ireland’s security

9. Foreign intelligence services are now routinely attacking Irish-based technology, financial services, aviation leasing and cybersecurity companies.
