IRAN

1. One US service member has been rescued and at least one is still missing after Iran shot down two US military planes in separate attacks in a dramatic development in the war began nearly five weeks ago.

It was the first time US aircraft had been downed in the conflict and came just two days after President Donald Trump said in a national address that the US has “beaten and completely decimated Iran”.

WEATHER

2. Met Éireann has warned of very strong winds across the country and heavy rain in at least two counties as Storm Dave approaches the country. A yellow weather warning is in place for the whole country for the whole day, with the strongest winds expected this evening.

THE MOON

3. The four Artemis astronauts have passed the halfway point between Earth and the Moon on the way to their planned lunar flyby, Nasa has confirmed.

“You are now closer to the moon than you are to us on Earth,” mission control told the astronauts at around 4am Irish time, according to the space agency’s official live broadcast.

The government is looking to hire an (unpaid) Financial Literacy Ambassador.

DRINK DRIVING

Ireland had 185 road deaths in 2025, up from 171 the year before, and 155 the year before that. He argues Ireland should examine implementing alcolocks on the cars of these repeat offenders.

DODGY BOXES

7. People Before Profit’s Paul Murphy called for TV company Sky to drop its legal action against dodgy box users, and said there should be increased funding for public broadcasting.

A recent ruling by the High Court has permitted Sky to obtain the details of hundreds of Irish dodgy box users in an effort to clamp down on the illegal practice.

LONDON

8. Three males aged 20, 19 and 17 are due in court in the UK after four Jewish community ambulances were targeted in an alleged arson attack in north-west London.

Four ambulances from Hatzola, a volunteer-led ambulance service, were set on fire in the early hours of 23 March, causing gas canisters stored in the vehicles to explode.
