APPLE IS EXPECTED to unveil a new version of the iPad at an event in San Francisco next week.
Apple sent out invitations to news media today with an image showing part of an iPad screen. The company had been widely expected to reveal the third version of its popular tablet computer soon, close to the anniversary of the launch of the iPad 2.
The event will take place next Wednesday at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theatre, where Apple holds larger launch events.
Since the first iPad came out in 2010, sales of traditional computers have slowed in the U.S. and other wealthy countries. Rival PC and phone makers have been unable to mirror Apple’s success with their own tablet computers.
Apple has sold 55 million iPads so far, about the same as the estimated number of Mac computers in use.
Apple didn’t provide any details on the new device. Various unconfirmed reports speak of a sharper screen and faster cellular broadband options.
It’s not known when such a new device would be available for sale. Last year, sales of the iPad 2 began in the US nine days after the announcement.

The ipad 3 is rumoured to be slightly thicker that the ipad 2.
It will be the same price as both the ipad 1 & 2 at launch.
Suicide rates in China are massive, its nothing to do with Foxconn or apple but because apple are the infinite bad guys it gets all the press.
At a guess i would say working at foxconn is a particulary good job in relation to what other jobs are available in the country.
Bought an iPad 2 for Christmas and its excellent. All the family make use of it. It’s a bit to soon for me to be upgrading but it will be well worth buying the iPad 3 if you don’t own any of the previous versions.
It will look just the same as last two,apple put no effort into design and rehash same as the iphone,they might have some gimmicks,siri for example that dont work..
jimbo, it is common knowledge that Apple produce a follow up product with a similar design. This can be seen across their range of products. Saying that they put no effort into their design is an ignorant comment to make. Finally, last time I checked, my Siri worked perfectly fine.
ALSO there is a big difference in ipad 1 and 2, they took their concept to another level, as the will no doubt do with ipad 3.

no, not easily impressed but I had an iPad 1 for a few weeks which I bought from someone in work to send to a family member back home. So I did have have that and my iPad 2 simultaneously for a little while. It is a little faster for sure. And as for the hardware yeah the camera is certainly a nice addition. I mean it’s obviously handy for Skype and a host of other apps. Also though, there are several apps that simply won’t work on he original iPad because there isn’t enough processing power.
I’m pretty sure this is at least the fifth iPad 3 launch rumor “article” I have seen here this year.
Exactly how much do Apple pay for this? Surely this is obliged to be marked as an advert or does the speculative tone circumvent the regulations?
There’s no “rumour” about this article, this is fact. Also, prove me wrong, but I haven’t seen an article that’s based on the launch date of he iPad, as I think we all knew when the release would happen, due to apple’s annual launches, this is only confirmation, and gives us detail on how they’re approaching it.
I think to consider that a company operating at such a large scale (largest in the world) would pay for an article like this is ridiculous.
It’s not an advertisement, and it’s certainly not unique. There’s a huge consumer interest in apple and their products, this is genuinely a public interest piece.
They have adopted a very clever method of creating hype around their products so they literally talk about themselves – no revenue required.
And to be fair to them, their products are top-class.

Might be a good idea to check out the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Great product. Bought one a few days ago.
I did consider it alright BUT what lets android down IMO is not hardware or specs,its the apps.
The newer tablets with android are extremely well spec’d,no doubt about it but usability s what looking for,plus it works well with my iphone.
I will at some stage get an android phone & probably tablet too but atm its the ipad & iphone that suits me best.

Never was an apple fan, went for Xoom2 ME B-) couldn’t be happier.
If Apple can improve on the brilliant iPad 2, which they will, then the iPad 3 will be the must have gadget of the year.
Until the IPad 4 next year, when millions of Apple fanboys will be even more excited.
There is only minute differences beween the ipad 1 & 2 – having a 2 & buying a 3 without major advances is particulary foolish.
Buy every 2nd or 3rd one is the way to go.
Like all the eejits that ran out and bought an iphone 4s on a 24month contract when the actual 5 will be announced in the 2nd half of this year.
Apple do this EVERY year for EVERY product, i dont know why people are surprised at it. Regardless of the updates,people buy them anyhow.

Android is OK but feels rough and unfinished when compared to apple. its mainly the apps I am referring to. on average android apps would crash more than apple too, its a fact not apple fan boy opinion. android market is nowhere near apple market and none of android super phones beat iPhone 4 display in terms of crisp and smooth picture – retina display still the best IMHO and even super HD amoled in galaxy nexus is still not as crisp. android is also too complex for average user apple is pure perfection when it comes to design and simplicity.
*knock* *knock* I guess you’re blissfully unaware of a little conference on in Barcelona, setting the trend in mobile for the next 12 months. Expect to see lots of Gorilla Glass 2, quad+1 core CPU’s and Ice Cream Sandwich
I own a high spec Android phone, and got an iPad 2 in the summer. I had no idea how I would find much use for it but in time it has really grown on me. Great specs (bar the rear camera and lack of flash, which I no longer see as a real issue with Netflix and HTML5), great design, and an outstanding battery. I think I’ve only ever seem mine run out of power completely three or four times. Definitely worth a look in. It’s not over priced as many would claim, it’s essentially a computer for those who don’t need to use extreme computing power.
Darragh, honest question: what do you use the iPad for? Does it replace your laptop for some things?
Yeera: Im a web developer as well as a computer scientist (programming applications and what not) so that is all I use my laptop for these days. Social networking, news reading and most email I do n my iPad as well as sweet features such as DAB radio stations I can listen to TalkSport in the UK on a portable device.

Apples products are amazing. I’ve an iPhone, iPod, iPad and a mac mini. BUT: my iPhone is a 3G, a dinosaur in iPhones at this stage, and all my friends have the latest iPhone. I can help wondering every time I see their phones – whats the difference between your latest model and my old one?? Very little really! Looks slightly different and has icloud and better camera, that’s all in essence. Def not worth €€€. I bought someone an iPad when they first came out. Then i bought an ipad2. What’s the difference between the two? Almost none! Almost. Point I’m making is apple have amazing products, of that there’s no doubt, but the latest gear just hasn’t enough new features to “upgrade”. They’re just too dear. Bottom line is I dont see the value in terms of new features compared to the cost. my 3G works fine. I’ll have it many years yet.
Well said,great products but wait a while before upgrading to actually see the improvements in preformance from new displays,faster processors etc.

Seriously though, I upgraded from 3G to a 4 when the 4 came out…big difference. Much faster, more power, better camera, additional camera, rear cam has flash, then of course there is the retina display. That display really does make a significant difference. When I visit Ireland I pop my O2 sim into my old 3G, but it drives me crazy it’s so slow. If there was an unlock avail for the baseband I’m using on the iPhone 4, I’d much prefer to use that when in Ireland. I plan on upgrading to the 5 when it’s out at the end of the year.
There is also talk of the appletv being updated. The stores in the US stopped carrying the current model a few weeks ago. I have that model and it’s great. I know it has more features enabled than the European version but whichever one u have u really have to jailbreak it and install atv flash to let u do a lot more with it than apple intended…like playing tonnes of different file formats for a start.

The difference between a 3G and a 4 is the fact that theres another model inbetween, the 3GS.
And for Joe Soap there difference between 4 and 4S isnt entirely groundbreakingly obvious.
How fast exactly do you want to open emails? Or is it the extra 3 megapixel camera that swings it for you?

I agree there isn’t much of a diff between the 4 and 4S. That’s one reason why I couldn’t justify getting a 4S.
If you’re just using the device as a phone then no there isn’t a diff between the 3G and 4 but if you use other features then their certainly is. The 3G doesn’t run iOS past 4.2. Like I said I still use the 3G when in Ireland and it runs very slow compared to the 4. Yeah the suped up camera is better on the phone and that means carrying one less device around when say on holidays etc. anyway by the tongue in cheek comment above about “..if u can’t see the improvements then u are blind!” I was referring to the display. Side by side comparing hem is like apples and oranges. My other half just upgraded from a 3GS to a 4S and also agree the display is stunning compared to models previous to the 4.
I dont buy all apple products…i have three products but am still very much a pc person. Too much money? Nah, but I wish! The carriers over here subsidize the phones so a new one costs $200 plus then you’re in contract for 24 months so that certainly helps. And seriously, my iDick?!! Lol. Come on man I think you have your iKnickers in an iTwist for no reason. Chill!

I presume it will be as expensive as the other ipads? Grealt luxury item if you have disposable income, but FAR from a must have item. Still can’t replace my PC at the end of the day.
People need to forget the idea that its a pc replacement,they arent. They are close but no,cant and wont replace your computer just yet. But an ipad (or other branded tablets) are very portable,great battery life,easy to use,instantly turn on,take up little space and in reality do exactly what your standard pc user wants – youtube,facebook,google,photos & music.
I know VERY few people who ‘process documents’ on their pc – its basically used for facebook only.
They are luxury alright but have a good life span,the ipad 1 is still as useable & relevant as when it was first released,its just a bit heavier & thicker than the ipad 2 & without a camera.
I’ll probably see about picking up a refurbished ipad 2 when the 3 is released,defo no need to be chasing every new product apple release.
