April Jones

Man accused of murdering April Jones 'approached her sister on Facebook'

The court was also shown images of April’s final hours as the trial of 47-year-old Mark Bridger continued.

A COURT IN Wales has heard how the man accused of kidnapping and murdering five-year-old April Jones last year approached her half-sister on Facebook.

Mark Bridger, 47, is said to have dated a 15-year-old girl when he was in his 30s and the court heard in a statement from April’s mum, Coral, today that she had advised her elder daughter two years ago not to engage with Bridger over Facebook after he tried to friend her, the Guardian reports.

Bridger is accused of abducting and murdering April last October but denies all charges against him including perverting the course of justice. He claims he ran over April with his car but does not remember what he did with her body.

The court heard evidence today which detailed the final movements of the schoolgirl on 1 October last year.

April had been for a swimming lesson in a local leisure centre (see CCTV image below) and returned home for tea, watched a Disney film and then asked her mother if she could go out to play.

“She kept on and on and had a little tantrum and I eventually gave in,” Coral Jones said in her statement to Mold Crown Court.

“I told her I didn’t want her out for long. I think it was about 7pm and that was the last time I saw her.”

Sky News reports that the jury was also shown footage of Bridger on the day April went missing and the following day when he was walking his dog in the local Machynlleth area.

The trial has been adjourned until next week.
