TWO MEN HAVE been arrested today in connection with the murder of former detective garda John Kerins in November last year.
Kerins’ body was found at his home in Bailiboro on the morning of 9 November last year. A postmortem concluded that the 49-year-old received gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Gardaí at Baileboro, Co Cavan made the arrests this morning and both men are detained at Carrickmacross Garda Station. A number of searches are also taking place in the Baileboro area in connection with the investigation which gardaí described as “ongoing”.
It is understood Kerins was medically discharged from An Garda Síochana a number of years ago and moved to the area. He had served in a number of specialist units in the force throughout his career.
Previously, it has been reported that Kerins was arrested and questioned over the disappearance of his neighbour Gerry Daly in 2011, and that he was also suspected of being involved in the drugs trade.
