65-year-old arrested over attempted 1977 murder of prison officer

The suspect was arrested by PSNI officers in Belfast this morning.

PSNI OFFICERS investigating the attempted murder of a prison officer in Northern Ireland in 1977 have arrested a man this morning.

The man, now aged 65, was arrested in Belfast this morning and is being questioned at the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim Police Station.

The attempted murder took place on Belfast’s Oldpark Road, in the northwest of the city, in 1977.

No further details on the cold case investigation have been released.
