In a statement released today, the Metropolitan Police said detectives from the counter-terrorism unit arrested a 49-year-old man from south Essex.
The man had arrived at the airport on a flight from Istanbul. The arrest does not relate to activities in the UK.
The man was taken into custody and later bailed to return to a south London police station in early February 2017.
