EVERY SATURDAY MORNING we take a look at all the best comments left on the site by our readers over the past seven days.
Tragedy in Berkeley and the shock closure of Clerys had you all talking this week.
So here are our top comments from the last seven days…
The 5 most popular comments this week
1. A lot of you – 3,825 – agreed with Stephen Cullen‘s take on the Clerys closure:
The only way Clerys is going to be brought back from the dead is if the whole of oconnell street is cleaned up and has a proper retail offering, absolute joke of a european main street capitol.
2. The Irish Daily Star received a lot of criticism for using a picture of body bags on its front page following the Berkeley tragedy, with some shops refusing to stock the paper.
Some 1,951 people approved of Dave Murray‘s stance:
The Irish Star are a disgrace too for publishing pictures of the poor students in body bags on the side of the road…how low can they go for to make money?
3. There was relief when a 14-year-old girl from Meath was found safe and well after going missing in Dublin. Before she was found, Richard Cynical had this to say:
I hope she is found safe and well
Some 1,789 of you agreed.
4. We got a huge reaction to an article about an interview between Ray D’Arcy and a sex worker. mary carey, and 1,764 other people, weren’t happy with how he handled the situation:
I used really like Ray. He often made me laugh, I liked his compassion.. BUT he’s very ‘shove his opinion down ur throat’ (pardon the pun in relation to sex work). He did not do his research today and she knocked him off his pedestal when he hadn’t read an article she cited.
He went into that interview not to hear her perspective but to belittle her into thinking he was right and she was wrong.
He’s not a disc jockey any more… He’s a knob jockey
5. Eánna Ó Corra was impressed when German footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger paid tribute to Irish student Niccolai Schuster, who died in the Berkeley balcony collapse:
A lot of respect for Bastian!
He got 1,753 green thumbs for his comment.

Standout comments of the week
Many people were deeply affected by the tragic events in Berkeley. John Lennox summed up how a lot of us are feeling:
When you consider the stupid things we worry, fight and are angry about in our own lives.
Too much time spent looking at things past in our lives.
It can be over in a second.
What a difficult time for these poor people.
It was Bloomsday during the week and David Norris made a valiant attempt to get more people to read Ulysses.
Peter Keenan wasn’t buying it, though:
Thanks David, but I think I might wait for it to come out on DVD.
Speaking of reading, we did a really selfless thing: Read the new 50 Shades of Grey book and pick out the filthiest bits so you don’t have to.
It let to some, er, interesting comments. We quite like this one from Faux Mole:
I am SHOCKED !!
SHOCKED I tell you
“My hand glides down her ass to the blue string, and I tug out the tampon, which I toss in the toilet. She gasps, shocked, ”
And well she might be..
He threw a tampon in the toilet!!!
Will nobody think of the beaches?
Meanwhile, james sullivan had this input:
Some Murray Kinsella analysis would be good.lol
And Al coholic also made a valid point:
“High-speed fibre-optic connections” wtf?
WTF, indeed.
DailyEdge.ie explored the important issue of ‘Chronic Resting Bitch Face’, leading Tis Herself to share her own experience of the affliction:
Going up the stairs in Pearse St Station one morning and a woman actually stopped and had a go because the thought I was giving her dirty looks. ‘Sorry love. That’s just my face!’ She was morto!
And finally, Colin C has rumbled our involvement in the New World Order:
As a journal commentator, I must express my disgust at this. [-----REDACTED------]. I also feel compelled to ask what Enda is doing about this disgrace, and must make mention of Denis O’Brien also for some reason which I’m not quite clear on myself. Also, there are not enough animated gifs in this article which I blame the New World Order and possibly the CIA for. Finally, I want to wrap this up saying something warm and fuzzy so I’m in with a chance of top comment prize this Saturday. Outrageous!
