THE NEW YORK Times has criticised Donald Trump for mocking one of its reporters and imitating his disability.

In a speech to supporters on Tuesday night, Trump singled out Serge Kovaleski – a journalist who has disputed his claim that thousands of Muslims in New Jersey celebrated the 9/11 attacks.

While speaking about Kovaleski, the Republican presidential candidate flailed his arms and changed his voice.

Kovaleski wrote an article disputing Trump’s version of events in 2001, when he worked at the Washington Post.

This week he told the paper: “I certainly do not remember anyone saying that thousands or even hundreds of people were celebrating. That was not the case, as best as I can remember.”

In response to Trump’s actions, the New York Times told CNN: “We find it’s outrageous that he would ridicule the appearance of one of our reporters.”

Kovaleski suffers from a chronic condition that impairs the movement of his arms.

He told the Washington Post: “The sad part about it is, it didn’t in the slightest bit jar or surprise me that Donald Trump would do something this low-rent, given his track record.”
