SAINT JOHN OF God Community Services has apologised to the family of Tristan Neiland as part of a settlement following the six-year-old’s death at the south Dublin respite centre.

The young boy, who had various medical conditions including epilepsy, died while attending a respite service run by St John of God in January 2013.

RTÉ reports that equipment which was to be used to monitor his night time oxygen levels was not used on the night of his death.

He was not checked for up to an hour-and-a-half before his body was found, the High Court heard today.

The High Court ordered the hospital to issue an apology under the settlement of an action taken by Tristan’s family.

“Saint John of God Community Services clg apologises to Tristan’s parents, sisters and brother for the shortcomings in the care provided to Tristan at the time of his death,” the apology reads.

The Service acknowledges that this is a cause of great anguish and stress for his family.

“Tristan is remembered with great fondness by all who knew him and supported him in our service. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tristan’s family through these very difficult times,” it concludes.
