TWO FIREFIGHTERS RECEIVED minor injuries in their efforts to subdue a large gorse fire on Killiney Hill, according to Dublin Fire Brigade.

Members fought the fire throughout the night and four crews and pumps remained on the scene as of this morning.

Residents were evacuated from their homes yesterday with the assistance of gardaí.

 At around 5.30pm yesterday the brigade was alerted and four crews attended the blaze in an area also known as Mullins Hill which is near many homes.

Smoke from the fire had begun to spread to the point that it was visible from Dublin city.

Both injured firefighters are recovering after receiving treatment.

“One firefighter received a slight laceration to the him and the other firefighter received an eye injury, so they were transported to St Vincent’s Hospital and will hopefully make a full recovery,” Darren O’Connor told Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio One.

He said the fire has now been contained and Air Corps helicopters have attended the scene this morning traveling from Baldonnel.

Efforts to protect houses were “successful”, Dublin Fire Brigade said in a social media post this morning.”

“Please remain to keep windows and doors closed if you are downwind of the fire,” it added on Twitter.

The area is less than a kilometre from the coast and also near Killiney Golf Club.
