The Braemoor Red Hen Ham & Cheese Chicken Kievs. FSAI

FSAI orders recall of chicken kievs over presence of salmonella

Retailers have been advised to pull the batch from their shelves.

THE FOOD SAFETY Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued an urgent recall of a batch of frozen chicken kievs following the detection of salmonella.

The affected product is the Braemoor Red Hen Ham & Cheese Chicken Kievs, sold in 500g packs with a use-by date of October 2026.

Retailers have been instructed to remove the implicated batch from sale, and display recall notices at points of purchase.

Wholesalers and distributors are being asked to contact their customers, recover stock, and provide recall information, while caterers are advised not to use the product.

According to the FSAI, salmonella infection usually develops within 12 to 36 hours of consumption, though symptoms may appear as quickly as six hours or take up to three days.

The illness commonly causes diarrhoea, which can sometimes be severe or bloody, as well as fever, abdominal cramps, and headaches.

Most people recover within four to seven days, but the infection can be serious.

Infants, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk of severe illness, which in some cases may require hospital treatment.

The FSAI is urging members of the public who bought the recalled kievs to return them to the shop of purchase and not to consume them.
