IT WILL STAY mostly dry this morning before conditions return to the heavy rain as seen over recent weeks.

In its forecast for today, Met Éireann outlined that it will be cloudy and mostly dry this morning in the east and north, but heavy showers are expected across Connacht and Munster with thunderstorms possible this morning.

Temperatures will reach up to 7 to 10 degrees throughout the day, the forecaster added.

Sunny spells and scattered showers will follow from the west throughout the country later this afternoon with fresh and gusty westerly winds.

Later tonight temperatures will drop to 1 to 4 degrees and we will see scattered showers and fresh westerly breezes. It will stay mostly dry in the east with the odd isolated showers passing.

The week will start tomorrow wet and blustery overall with scattered showers drifting over the country in a fresh westerly breeze.
