Why Taylor Swift is unlikely to honeymoon in Wicklow, no matter how hard Simon Harris tries

Swift married Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden. Will her honeymoon be in the Garden of Ireland?

TAYLOR SWIFT IS in the middle of pulling off perhaps the most elaborate wedding ever, so it’s a good thing she won’t have to worry about where she’ll honeymoon.

Wicklow, of course. That’s according to Simon Harris, who said the pop star is very welcome to return to the county, which gets a mention in one of Swift’s songs.

That song is Sweet Nothing. Unfortunately, she wrote it about her ex, English actor Joe Alwyn, with whom she travelled to Ireland during the pandemic.

Fast forward to 2026, and she’s reportedly just married NFL player Travis Kelce at a ceremony in Madison Square Garden.

Speaking to reporters in Cork today, Harris said Swift is “welcome back to the county any time, if we can inspire her artistic flair”.

Asked if she should have her honeymoon in the county, Harris said: “Well, Wicklow is a beautiful place to honeymoon.

“There goes the tourism advertisement for Wicklow.”

He added: “Things are going well for Wicklow. We’re in one of Taylor Swift’s songs. We’re in the Tailteann Cup final.”

Swift had made the trip to Ireland in 2021, when her then-boyfriend Alwyn was filming for Conversations With Friends, a TV adaptation of the Sally Rooney novel.

The pair had a very private relationship. It began when she was recovering from her 2016 ‘cancellation’, which was sparked by a feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

Swift withdrew from the public eye almost completely, doing next to no publicity for her sixth studio album Reputation, which detailed the impact of the hate she received and chronicled her new love story.

She’d write many songs during the six-year relationship, including Sweet Nothing. It seems Swift enjoyed her low-key life in Ireland, although it was short-lived, as she compared its simplicity to that of her love for Alwyn.

The lyrics of Sweet Nothing go:

A pebble that we picked up last July, down deep inside your pocket. We almost forgot it. Does it ever miss Wicklow sometimes?
They said the end is coming. Everyone’s up to something. I find myself running home to your sweet nothings … All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing.

Harris joked at the time that Swift should return the pebble to whichever beach she stole it from.

After the couple broke up, Swift released a song called You’re Losing Me, which included the cutting line, “I wouldn’t marry me either, a pathological people pleaser”, indicating that she wanted to marry Alwyn, but the feeling wasn’t mutual.

Swift would later embark on the record-breaking Eras Tour, where she performed songs about all her past relationships.

When she played shows in Ireland in 2024, a year into dating Kelce, she of course had to sing the song that mentioned an Irish county.

While performing a mashup of Sweet Nothing and Hoax, a song about a toxic relationship, Swift appeared to break down on stage.

Harris wouldn’t be aware, as he reportedly turned down VIP tickets to her sold-out Croke Park concerts.

Maybe the wound has healed since then, but it’s safe to say Swift may choose a less-storied location for her honeymoon with Kelce.
