Man killed in Dún Laoghaire shooting named locally

It is understood that Mark Cullen was shot in the leg and bled out at the scene.

A MAN WHO was shot dead in Dún Laoghaire in south Dublin on Sunday morning has been named locally as Mark Cullen.

Gardaí are investigating the shooting, which happened at around 8.30am at Patrician Park, Kill Avenue.

It is understood that Mark Cullen, who was in his late 30s to early 40s, was shot in the leg and bled out at the scene.

He had a number of criminal convictions, including convictions for selling drugs.

The coroner has been notified of the death.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses of this incident to come forward.

Speaking to The Journal on Sunday, local Green party councillor Tom Kivlehan described the incident as “shocking” and “unusual” for the small community.

There were no gun-related deaths in Ireland last year for the first time in decades. The last fatal shooting was in May 2024, when Josh Itseli (20) was killed in Drimnagh, Co Dublin.
