A MAN HAS been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 39-year-old man in Dún Laoghaire in south Dublin on Sunday morning
The victim was named locally today as Mark Cullen.
Gardaí are investigating the shooting, which happened at around 8.30am at Patrician Park, Kill Avenue.
It is understood that Mark Cullen was shot in the leg and bled out at the scene.
He had a number of criminal convictions, including convictions for selling drugs.
The coroner has been notified of the death.
A garda spokesperson said this evening that a man aged in his 30s had been arrested and is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 in a garda station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses of this incident to come forward.
Speaking to The Journal on Sunday, local Green party councillor Tom Kivlehan described the incident as “shocking” and “unusual” for the small community.
There were no gun-related deaths in Ireland last year for the first time in decades. The last fatal shooting was in May 2024, when Josh Itseli (20) was killed in Drimnagh, Co Dublin.
