Photo released of man wanted in connection with alleged attempted murder in Co Down

A man and a woman were seriously injured in the alleged incident on Christmas Eve.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland have released a photo of a man they are seeking to speak with in connection with an alleged attempted murder of two people in Bangor, Co Down on Christmas Eve.

Two people were hospitalised after the incident at a home in the Chippendale Avenue area of the town.

At around 3.30pm on Christmas Eve, officers responded to a report that a man armed with a hammer and a knife had entered a home and assaulted a woman aged in her 50s and a man aged in his 20s.

The two people assaulted were taken to hospital for treatment of there serious injuries and have been discharged since.

Today, the PSNI has outlined that they want to speak to a man in his 50s who was pictured in the Coniston Road area at around 3.55pm on Christmas Eve.

Superintendent Lindsay Fisher said that they are “becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare” and are appealing directly to the man to make contact with police.

“We have conducted a number of searches at different properties and areas as we actively seek to locate him,” Fisher said.

Officers also remain in attendance at the scene of the stabbing at Chippendale Avenue, Fisher added.

The man was wearing a navy blue jacket with the brand name ‘Helly Hansen’ written on the back in white.

He is described as being approximately 5ft 10 ins in height, with short, dark hair and wearing blue jeans, and dark trainers with white soles.

Although the PSNI “do not believe there is a serious risk to the wider community”, they have cautioned members of the public not to approach the man if they believe they see him, but to “create a safe distance and contact police immediately” on 101, or 999 in an emergency. The reference number to quote is 914 of 24/12/25.
