Is Blade Runner 2049 even better than the original? Watch the new trailer here

Ryan Gosling stars alongside Harrison Ford in this re-imagining, set thirty years after the original.

THE ORIGINAL BLADE Runner is one of the most significant cult movies of recent decades. And its legend has only been stoked by the five versions of the film in existence – running from 1982 to 2007.

Now, the sci-fi classic has received what could be its best reimagining yet, with a brand new sequel, Blade Runner 2049. Harrison Ford stars again as Rick Deckhard, with Denis Villeneuve in the director’s chair and Ridley Scott on board as executive producer.

If anyone is qualified to take over the Blade Runner directorial legacy from Scott, it’s Villeneuve, who scored a Best Director Academy Award nomination this year for his work on the intense sci-fi thriller Arrival.

As the name suggests, Blade Runner 2049 is set 30 years after the events of the first film. New LAPD blade runner Officer K, played by Ryan Gosling, unearths a long-buried secret that leads him on a quest to find Deckhard, who has been missing for three decades.

While the original Blade Runner was something of a sleeper hit, the new sequel has been been building excitement among audiences since the first teaser trailer landed back in December, and preview screenings have garnered massively positive reviews so far.
