Journeys, even everyday ones, can mean a lot. Brendan Keary is Dealer Principal at Kearys Renault in Cork, part of the Keary Motor Group. As someone with a passion for motoring, he told TheJournal.ie about the drive that means most to him.

MY FAVOURITE JOURNEY would have to be the trip from Cork to Waterville in Kerry, on a nice summer’s day.

You’re going around the Ring of Kerry, there’s no phone reception a lot of the way, you’re really leaving work behind. And as you go the pressures of everyday life kind of fall away.

There’s a moment by Glenbeigh, when you see the view over the sea, it’s very special.

It’s a very relaxed place for me. There’s an amazing moment when you first get out of the car and smell the sea air. I spent all my summers down there in Waterville as a child, so I have lots of memories. Ham sandwiches in the car, things like that.

To break up the journey we would stop at the Bianconi restaurant in Killorglin, for probably Ireland’s finest toasted special and soup.

You’d be asking ‘Are we there yet?’ Or coming up with games – one person would pick a red car and the other a black car and you’d have a competition, that kind of thing.

I’ve got two kids myself now, a three year old and a ten month old.  We’re going down ourselves the August bank holiday. So I’m really looking forward to creating some new memories with them.
