'It breaks our hearts': Body of missing Irishman found in Stockholm

Brian Farrell’s family say his body was found in water close to where he was last seen.

THE HEART-BROKEN family of a Sligo man missing in Stockholm for 11 days confirmed this evening that he has been found dead in the Swedish capital.

The body of Brian Farrell, from Culleens Co Sligo, was found today “in the water off Gamla Stan, close to where he was last seen”, on the night of Monday, 10 November, they said in a statement.

The 32-year-old’s loved ones thanked the Irish community in Sweden and the Irish Embassy, for their support “at this difficult time.”

We, Brian’s family and his fiance Lorraine, would like to thank the rescue services who recovered his remains, Missing People Sweden, his employers ICDS Construction and his workmates in Stockholm…
We thank everyone who posted messages of support on social media as we searched for him, and also those who remembered Brian in their prayers.

A post mortem examination is due to be carried out in Sweden, before Brian’s body is brought back to Ireland.

His family are asking to be “left in peace to mourn the loss of our son, our brother, our best friend.”

Brian Farrell was last seen in the vicinity of Wirstroms Pub in the Gamla Stan district of Stockholm.

He had been working in the city since March.
