PASSENGERS ON BOARD A British Airways flight from Heathrow to Hong Kong on Tuesday heard the message no one wants to hear: “We may shortly need to make an emergency landing on water”.

The automatic message was played erroneously, terrifying the 275 passengers on the flight.

Cabin crew told passengers that it had been a mistake.

Passenger Michelle Lord, 32, of Preston, told the Sun:

People were terrified, we all thought we were going to die. They said the pilot hit the wrong button because they were so close together.

BA has apologised to those who on board the flight, and said that an investigation was underway to determine whether the pilot had pressed the button in error, or it was a computer glitch.

A spokesperson for the airline said it apologised to its customers, and said it’s cabin crew had immediately made an announcement informing passengers that it had been a mistake.
