A BRITISH WOMAN has been stabbed in Sydney while trying to fight off the alleged sexual advances of a man she was living with.
The 23-year-old backpacker suffered multiple knife wounds, police have said.
Speaking earlier today, a spokesperson for the Redfern Local Area Command said that the incident began when a 27-year-old man allegedly entered the woman’s room and attempted to sexually assault her.
She fought off his advances, after which he left the room and returned with a knife.
He then allegedly stabbed her a number of times. She was able to leave the room and find a knife, allegedly stabbing her attacker in the chest.
The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that her attacker is a Mexican national. It is understood that this happened at a boarding house where around 20 backpackers are currently staying.
Detective Inspector Despa Fitzgerald told reporters earlier today that the pair were “possibly acquaintances, but we’re still trying to work that out”.
The man was arrested a short time later after attempting to make an escape on foot and is currently being held in a local hospital.
