Who is Tom Mockridge? 9 things you probably don’t know about the Sky Italia boss who stepped into Rebekah Brooks’s shoes today.

IT HAS BEEN confirmed that Rebekah Brooks will be replaced as Chief Executive Officer at News International by Tom Mockridge.

James Murdoch, son of Rupert Murdoch, confirmed that Rebekah Brooks was resigning in the wake of the News of the World phone-hacking scandal, after 22 years of working with the company.

Murdoch said that Mockridge would take over Brooks’ role as CEO and will start immediately.

He described him as “a highly respected and accomplished media executive”.

His role will be temporarily taken over by Laura Cioli, Chief Operating Officer, and Domenico Labianca, Chief Finance Officer.

The key details of Mockridge’s career so far:

  • Mockridge began his career as a newspaper journalist in New Zealand
  • A former role of Mockridge’s was spokesperson in the Australian government
  • He joined News Corporation in 1991
  • Mockridge has served as CEO of Sky Italia since its launch in 2003
  • He is a non-executive director of BSkyB
  • He is on the Supervisory Board of Sky Deutschland
  • He has also been in charge of the corporation’s European Television business
  • Murdoch described the creation of TG-24, an Italian television channel, as “a credit to Tom’s leadership and integrity”
  • Mockridge held a number of roles at Star Group Limited as well as being CEO of Foxtel
