Man hospitalised after entering canal while being pursued by gardaí

The man was arrested in Blanchardstown after being pursued by gardaí on foot.

WHEN GARDAÍ SPOTTED an alleged burglar exiting a house this morning, they pursued him from the area – but had to retrieve him from a canal in order to arrest him.

The gardaí saw the man exiting the house after what appeared to be a burglary in the Laurels in Castleknock, Dublin, at around 4am, and pursued him on foot.

A source told TheJournal.ie that it is believed the man entered the canal in the Roselawn area of Blanchardstown during the pursuit.

A garda helicopter was employed in the search.

When the man exited from the canal, he was arrested. He was then brought to hospital for observation. He is still in hospital and remains in garda custody.
