POLICE IN THE American state of Ohio have said that one person was killed, and 14 injured, after gunfire erupted at a nightclub in the city of Cincinnati last night.
WLWT News reports that the shootings took place just after 1am local time at Cameo Night Club.
Police in Cincinnati had said there were “at least a couple of shooters” who opened fire inside the nightclub, but assistant Cincinnati police chief Paul Neudigate said in a tweet later that there was “only one reported shooter at this time, still investigating if others involved.”
Police confirmed that 15 people have been shot and Neudigate said that several of the victims have life-threatening injuries.
“We are in the middle of a very horrific situation that occurred at the nightclub with multiple victims,” he said.
“We are in the middle of a very horrific situation that occurred at the nightclub with multiple victims,” Neudigate said. “It’s going to be a long night for our homicide units to investigate.”
He added that there were hundreds of people in the club when the shooting broke out.
Police Sergeant Eric Franz told ABC News that no one is in custody in relation to the attack, adding that “we’ve got a really large scene at multiple hospitals”.
Captain Kim Williams says authorities are not sure what prompted the shooting at the Cameo nightclub early Sunday, but said that there is no indication that the shooting was terrorism-related.
