AN POST HAS issued a new stamp which commemorates Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara.
The stamp will feature the famous artwork of Guevara by Irish artist Jim Fitzpartrick, an image that has become one of the world’s most iconic images.
Guevara was killed in South America in 1967 and An Post has chosen the 50th anniversary of his death to issue the stamp.
Born in Argentina, Guevara assisted Fidel Castro in overturning the Cuban government in the late 1950s, and then held key political offices during Castro’s regime.
He was arrested and subsequently executed by the Bolivian army on 9 October 1967.
The €1 stamp, designed by Red&Grey, is based on Fitzpartick’s artwork, which appears on t-shirts, posters, badges and clothing worldwide.
It’s available from main post offices, from the stamp counters at Dublin’s GPO and online at www.irishstamps.ie.
