THE COBH COUPLE killed in an apparent murder-suicide at their home on Sunday are to have separate funerals.
The funeral of Valerie Greaney, who was attacked by her husband Michael before he took his own life, will take place at St Colman’s Cathedral in Cork on Friday morning.
The funeral of Michael Greaney will take place separately, and the family have requested that both his funeral and burial be strictly private.
The family has also asked that no photographs or videos are taken of the couple’s two children, Sarah and Michelle, at the funeral of Valerie.
Michelle, who had recently graduated from UCC, was seriously injured in the attack.
The Catholic Communications Office called on the media to adhere to the rules at the funeral on Friday.
“In order to respect both the solemnity of the Mass, and the wishes of the family of the deceased, media are advised that photographs cannot be taken, and video recording is not permitted inside the Cathedral, or on its grounds at any time on Friday,” the office said in a statement.
It is reported that Michelle Greaney may be released from hospital to attend the funeral on Friday.
