Council tells public to not jump fence to swim at Vico Baths, as repair works are underway
The council is repairing the concrete access steps and replacing the damaged railing.
DÚN LAOGHAIRE-RATHDOWN COUNTY Council has asked people not to trespass at the Vico Baths while works are underway.
It said people had been climbing over the barriers that have been in place since the repairs began at the popular south Dublin bathing spot a few weeks ago.
It is to remain closed until the end of the month.
The council is repairing the concrete access steps and replacing the damaged railing.
It is also installing new ladders into the water.
“These improvements will enhance the existing facilities and help protect the area for future use,” the council said in a statement.
Barriers have been up to stop the public accessing the swim spot until repairs are done.
However, the good weather has apparently thinned patience, as some people have been jumping over.
“This poses a serious safety risk and may delay completion of the project,” the council said.
Local councillor Carrie Smyth encouraged people to use alternative swimming spots, such as White Rock beach or Killiney beach.
“I’d say some people who are fit and agile could get over the wall and get in,” she said.
“It’s hard to keep people out of somewhere if they want to get in.
“There is an alternative there. There are the steps down to White Rock.”
The Éire sign grass area nearby is also still open.
