A CYCLIST AGED in his 20s has died following a collision involving a car in Co Carlow last night.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal collision on the N80 at Kilmeany, south-east of Carlow town at approximately 11:00pm.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His body was transferred to the mortuary in Waterford University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

No other injuries were reported according to gardaí.

The road has been closed between the Tinryland junction and the M9 for an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

It was the second reported death of a cyclist on the country’s roads yesterday, following a separate incident in Co Meath that left a man in his 80s dead.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 10:45pm and 11:10pm on Friday 12th September 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
