AMERICAN ACTRESS DIANE Keaton has died at the age of 79.

The news was reported by People Magazine, which cited a family spokesperson. No cause of death has been announced.

The actress was one of the best-known and loved stars in Hollywood with an acting career that spanned stage and screen. In 1977, Keaton won an Academy Award for her role in Woody Allen’s Annie Hall.

She was also the recipient of two Golden Globes, a BAFTA, two Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award.

Keaton’s filmography included cult classic films like The Godfather film series, Father of the Bride, Something’s Gotta Give, and The First Wives Club.

Born in Los Angeles in 1946, Keaton’s professional career began on Broadway. She received her first Tony nomination in 1971 when she played in Woody Allen’s Play it Again, Sam on Broadway.

She made her film debut in Love and Other Strangers, and following that, Francis Ford Coppola took a chance on the young actress and cast her in The Godfather, which premiered in 1972.

Keaton continued to feature in films as she approached her later life: she had two films – comedies Arthur’s Whiskey and Summer Camp – released last year.

She is survived by her two children: Dexter and Duke.
