STAFF NUMBERS AT Dublin Airport will be reduced by up to 150 as part of cost-cutting measures, airport management have confirmed.
The Dublin Airport Authority said it would be seeking between 100 and 150 voluntary redundancies as it attempted to reduce spending.
It said the move was a response to continuing difficult trading conditions. A DAA spokesperson said:
Due to the ongoing economic downturn, the company’s airport operations continue to face significant commercial challenges. It is necessary for the company to take further steps to make its business even more efficient.
The weak economy in the UK is also hitting traffic at the airport, the spokesperson added.
Staff have been informed of the plans, which involve a limited voluntary severance scheme and an early retirement scheme. It’s understood the redundancies will be sought in a limited number of areas at the airport including retail services.
A DAA spokesperson told TheJournal.ie the measures were not related to yesterday’s decision by Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar to separate Shannon Airport from the DAA.
