Dublin City Council to hold event to honour crèche worker's 'bravery' in Parnell Square attack

Leanne Flynn was with the children on 23 November 2023, when Riad Bouchaker pulled out a knife and began stabbing a five-year-old girl.

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL is going to honour the bravery shown by Leanne Flynn during the Parnell Square stabbing.

The crèche worker was with a group of children on 23 November 2023, when Riad Bouchaker pulled out a knife.

Flynn suffered stab wounds while trying to shield them from Bouchaker.

Three children were injured in the course of the attack, including a 5-year-old girl who sustained life-threatening injuries and will now need life-long, full-time care.

Dublin City Council last night voted to hold an event this autumn to honour Flynn’s courage and “express the city’s gratitude”.

Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan, said Flynn “bravely and unselfishly put the welfare of others ahead of her own health and safety”.

“The safety of the school children was foremost in Leanne’s mind. Protecting those children was her priority.

“During the attack Leanne herself was stabbed in the back. Her injuries were so serious she was hospitalised for a month and had emergency surgery.

“The bravery shown by Leanne was a ray of hope in those dark days that followed the attack.”

The motion was agreed without debate.

Doolin added that the cross-party support shows “the very high regard” in which Flynn is held by everyone across Dublin.
