Dublin's Wax Museum hopes to shake off Sinéad O'Connor fiasco with €40k Taylor Swift figure

The waxwork is the first to be unveiled since a figure of Sinéad O’Connor was removed from display in 2024 after family complaints.

A STRUCTURE OF Taylor Swift has been unveiled at the National Wax Museum in Dublin – the first new figure to be announced since the Sinéad O’Connor waxwork disaster of 2024.

“We really had to do it right, I do not want my wrist slapped again,” Claire Dunning, who runs the wax museum with her husband Paddy, told The Journal today.

“You gotta do it right, or else. We learned our lesson,” she said.

A figure of the late Irish singer was removed from display after family complaints and uproar from fans.

The singer’s brother John O’Connor phoned into RTÉ’s Liveline at at the time and said the “hideous” figure looked like something between “a mannequin and something out of the Thunderbirds”.

Dunning said the waxwork is due to return to the museum soon. “Poor Sinéad is getting a face lift,” she said.

The new Swift figure took nine months to make and was a joint project between the wax museum and an artist in the UK – who does not want to be named.

Dunning said the waxwork cost the business €40,000.”These things cost a bloody fortune and they take ages,” she said.

Most of Swift’s body is made from resin and her head is made from wax. Dunning said the waxwork is anatomically correct and matches Swift’s 5’11″ frame.

Her wig was made using real human hair and she was dressed in an imitation of the sparkly body suit she wore at her 2024 Eras Tour, paired with matching knee-high silver boots and a pink guitar.

The new figure has joined a room of waxworks of other well known artists, including Irish twins Jedward and David Bowie.

Dunning said she was nervous for the unveiling after the reaction to the most recent figure, but hopes Swift is impressed.

She plans to get in touch with the singer and show her the waxwork. “Hopefully she sees it and tells us we did a good job,” she added.

A figure of Meath artist CMAT is the next waxwork Dunning wants to feature in the museum. She said she wants to add many more figures of women, including Mrs Doyle from Father Ted.

Two young fans of the global superstar, who were at the museum for the unveiling, were very impressed with the waxworks likeness to Swift.

“We wanted to see her big unveiling,” Sadbh, 18, told The Journal.

“It’s really well done, the costume, the boots, it’s really well done,” she said.

“It looks like her, it definitely is Taylor Swift,” Macy, 17, added.

The pair were very impressed with the outfit, which they said was “one of her most intricate” from the tour.
