TWO GOVERNMENT MINISTERS said that they are encouraged by figures released today that show Ireland’s economy grew in the second quarter of this year.

Junior Finance Minister Brian Hayes said he was encouraged by the “strong” CSO figures saying that employment, growth and exports are all going “in the right direction”.

He also said it was significant that trading partners such as the UK and the US are coming out of recession.

Education Minister Ruairí Quinn said that it was still too early to determine “where we are and what we have to do”.

He said Cabinet agreed yesterday to wait until the last week in September when more budget figures are published to determine how much to take out of the economy in the October budget.
