He even had a motorbike waiting for him

CCTV FOOTAGE HAS emerged that shows drug lord El Chapo escaping from his prison cell – via the shower.

The video shows Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman checking the shower floor (which was hidden by a half wall) before disappearing.

His final moments in the building involved him descending down a tunnel under his shower, to an area where a motorcycle on rails was waiting.

He travelled 1.5km in the tunnel, AP reports, and then climbed a wooden ladder to a small basement.

Another ladder brought him to a small wooden building which was built to hide where the escape action was.

A tunnel like this would normally take 18 months to two years to complete, Jim Dinkins, former head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, told AP.

Guzman was behind bars barely 16 months.

He vanished from his cell on Saturday - even though he was wearing a monitoring bracelet, which he subsequently took off. The CCTV is also trained on his cell 24 hours a day.

The Mexican government has offered a $3.8 million (€3.4 million) reward for his capture. It also sacked top prison officials over the escape.

A massive manhunt is underway.
