Do you think there should be limits on election poster sizes?

An Comisiún Toghcháin has suggested that the ‘permitted shape and size of posters should be limited’.

WHILE ELECTION POSTERS should not be completely banned, limits on their size stricter enforcement of rules surrounding their use are needed, An Coimisiún Toghcháin (the Electoral Commission) has said.

The suggestion is among a number of recommendations published by the Commission today. While acknowledging that posters remain an important part of election campaigns, it noted that there are both environmental and public safety concerns regarding their use.

To address these concerns, it recommended limiting the size of election posters as a means to reduce waste and environmental damage.

“Our challenge is to preserve the elements of our electoral tradition that continue to serve voters, while ensuring that campaigning is safe, sustainable and respectful of the public spaces we all share,” said An Coimisiún Toghcháin chief Art O’Leary.
