Were you on Facebook recently? You and a billion others...

It doesn’t look like the Facebook juggernaut is going to slow down anytime soon.

FACEBOOK SHOWS NO signs of slowing down after announcing another successful earnings call for the latest quarter (July – September).

The service now has 1.5 billion monthly active users – gaining 60 million more monthly active users in three months – and 1.38 billion are accessing the site on mobile. Of that number, 727 million are mobile-only users, likely driven by its efforts to expand in emerging markets like India.

On average, 1.01 billion people access the service daily while 894 million people use it on their phones every day.

As for profits, it continues to make more and more money, increasing its net income to $891m (€820m), an 11% increase from the $806m (€742m) made last quarter.

Video saw one of the biggest increases with 500m users now watching video every day, bringing the total number of views up to 8 billion.

While a view on Facebook means a user watched it for more than three seconds (others like YouTube tend to make it longer, around 30 seconds), Zuckerberg said it was “pretty amazing how quickly it’s growing, but there’s a lot more to do.”

Other major takeaways from the earnings call were:

  • More than 9.5 billion photos are now sent on Facebook Messenger.
  • One billion people use Facebook on Android.
  • 80 million photos are shared every day on Instagram.
  • One in five of the minutes people spend on their phones per day is on Facebook and Instagram.
  • 925 million people are using groups and in some countries, more than half the population use them.

The majority of Facebook’s revenue is generated through ads in the US and Canada, and is hoping its expansion into other countries will help increase advertising revenue further. When asked about expanding into China, a potentially massive market for Facebook, Zuckerberg said it was a “complex situation.”

“You can’t have the mission of wanting to connect everyone in the world and leave out one of the biggest countries,” he said. “We need to try and figure out a way forward on that issue.”
