Five men arrested for failing to stop for gardaí and later being involved in collision with two cars

The occupants of the car were suspected of involvement in a burglary in Walkinstown, Dublin 12 a short time earlier.

FIVE MEN, SUSPECTED of being involved in a burglary, have been arrested for failing to stop for gardaí and then becoming involved in a collision with two cars.

At around 1:40pm today, a car with five occupants failed to stop for gardaí in the Knocklyon area of Dublin 16.

The vehicle was later involved in a collision with two other cars driven by members of the public at Grange Road, Rathfarnham. 

The five occupants of the car fled on foot and were pursued by gardaí, with the assistance of the Garda Air Support Unit.

It was established that the occupants of the car were suspected of involvement in a burglary in Walkinstown, Dublin 12 a short time earlier.

The five men were detained at Garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.

Two – one in his 50s and the other a juvenile teenager – were arrested under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act.

The juvenile has since been released pending further investigations.

A third man in his 20s was arrested on foot of a bench warrant.

Two others, also aged in their 20s, were detained for the purposes of a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act and subsequently released without charge.

All three occupants of the two other cars driven by the members of the public were brought to Tallaght Hospital for assessment.

A garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.
