This Ford Sierra Cosworth is a roaring icon of 1980s motoring

Yup, it’s a Cossie.

IF I HAD the money I’d buy…

An iconic car of 1980s motoring and Touring Car racing. A Group A racer with an anything-but-subtle design and a roaring 2.0-litre high performance engine under the bonnet. A car that isn’t for shrinking violets. I’d buy a Ford Sierra Cosworth.

Why a Ford Sierra Cosworth?

The Ford Sierra Cosworth is a high-performance version of the Ford Sierra… and who doesn’t want more power? The Sierra Cosworth was formidable when it first came out in the 1986. It offered massive amounts of performance – thanks to the high-powered engine by British company Cosworth – with a practical hatchback body.

What’s special about this particular one?

This particular 1986 registered model is a rare breed as it is totally unmodified. In fact, this car hasn’t been restored in any way, it is factory fresh. It looks menacing with its glossy black coat and those bonnet vents and it rolls on four new tyres and unmarked original alloys.

Also, check out that big whale-tail spoiler located halfway up the line of the hatchback which aids the stability to the car should you get it up to racing speed. This is one mint motor.

What does it look like in action?

Who else drives one?

The people who own/owned Cosworth-powered Fords all seem to have one thing in common; they are petrolheads who love to drive. Proud owners have included Jeremy Clarkson, Formula 1 drivers Michael Schumacher and Jos Verstappen as well as rally driver Malcolm Wilson.

It costs €50,000. What else could you get for the money?

For the same money, you could have this 2007 Porsche 911.

… or, for a lot less money, you could have this racy 1989 BMW E30.
