Woman dies after Mayo road crash

Gardaí have made an appeal for witnesses to the two-car collision which occurred just outside Foxford last night.

A WOMAN SERIOUSLY injured in a road crash in Mayo has died overnight.

The woman in her 50s was seriously injured in a two-car collision which occurred at about 9.20pm at a location known locally as Armstrong’s Corner, about three miles outside of Foxford.

The injured woman was the driver and sole occupant of one of the vehicles involved and was taken to Mayo General Hospital by ambulance.

She was later pronounced dead, Gardaí have said this morning.

The driver of the second car was also hospitalised but injuries have been described as not life-threatening.

The road remains closed this morning to facilitate technical examinations and local diversions are in place.

An appeal for witnesses has been made and anyone with information is asked to contact the local garda station on 094 925 2990 or the confidential line on 1800 666 111.
