A MAN WHO was arrested and then released in Dublin, despite being wanted by police in Northern Ireland, was arrested in Armagh last night.
Stephen Henry, 41, from Belfast, who went on the run after failing to return to Magilligan Prison in Northern Ireland earlier this week, was arrested drunk in Dublin yesterday morning after being thrown out of a city-centre hostel and getting mugged.
Henry was jailed in 2004 for murder.
He was brought before Dublin District Court yesterday evening and let go after being fined €75 for a public order offence that does not carry a jail sentence.
A European Arrest Warrant had not been issued yet and could take a week, the court was told.
Henry did not return to prison on Monday after he was granted a day-release pass to visit his family. The PSNI launched a manhunt and appealed for information into his whereabouts.
“He has a history of violence and I would urge the public not to approach him but to contact the police immediately,” Detective Sergeant McColgan said.
“I would ask Mr Henry to hand himself into the authorities without any further delay.”
Henry was apprehended by police at around 11.25pm last night in the Waringstown area of Co Armagh.
The PSNI said it wanted to thank the public for its assistance.
