NI police targeting organised gang of cigarette thieves

Today police issued an appeal for information about two males involved in a burglary at a shop in Armagh.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are appealing for information following a burglary at shop premises in Markethill, Armagh, in the early hours of this morning.

At around 1.40am two males forced their way through the front entrance of the locked shop on Main Street and made off with a substantial amount of cigarettes. Both men are described as being of medium build and were wearing gloves and face masks.

The first male was wearing a dark coloured Adidas jumper and beany hat and the second was dressed in a dark and white coloured hooped top, tracksuit bottoms and dark coloured trainers with a white band.

It is believed that these men may be part of an organised gang who travel throughout Northern Ireland targeting shops to steal cigarettes.

The men arrived at the scene and made off in a distinctive white coloured Ford Escort car and detectives are appealing for anyone who has seen a old style white Ford Escort vehicle in the time before the burglary or since, to contact them in CID Ardmore, Newry on 0845 600 8000. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
