Gardaí seek information about black Kia Rio used in fatal Edenderry arson attack

The car was used by the perpetrators of the arson attack that killed four-year-old Tadgh Farrell and his grand-aunt Mary Holt.

GARDAÍ CONDUCTING A murder investigation into the house fire that killed a four-year-old boy and his grand-aunt in Edenderry, Co Offaly in early December are appealing for information about a car they found burnt out in Co Kildare.  

The fire was set on 6 December and killed Tadgh Farrell and Mary Holt. 

Tadgh’s grandmother remains in hospital and is being treated for serious burn injuries.  

According to gardaí, the two males who carried out the fatal arson attack on the house left the scene at Castleview Park, Edenderry in a black Kia Rio.

The car was recovered burnt out at Tipper East, Naas, Co Kildare in the early hours of 7 December 2025.

The Garda investigation team said it is satisfied that any previous registered owners of the car “are not involved in any way with this murderous attack”.

Gardaí wish to speak to anyone who has information about people who had access to the car between 7 October and 7 December 2025. They also want to hear from anyone with knowledge of the car’s whereabouts between 1 and 7 December.

Additionally, the investigating team wants to see any CCTV footage or images of the car in question taken during that time period.
