Fresh appeal as disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin remains unsolved one year on

Kyran Durnin was last seen over three years ago.

GARDAÍ IN LOUTH are continuing to appeal to the public for information in connection with the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin, who would have turned nine this year.

Kyran was last seen in June 2022. He was six years old at the time.

Despite extensive investigations, gardaí have been unable to locate him or determine what happened.

Last October, gardaí announced that after extensive inquiries, there was no evidence that Kyran is alive, and a formal murder investigation was subsequently launched.

To date, more than 570 separate investigative actions have been carried out, gardaí have said.

Two people, a woman and a man, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. Both were released without charge.

Gardaí have also searched three domestic residences and adjoining lands, including excavation works, and conducted full forensic examinations at each site.

Previous searches were conducted at Kyran’s family home in Dundalk, as well as two separate properties in Drogheda.

Gardaí have stressed that current tenants of the Dundalk house have no connection to Kyran or his disappearance.

A number of electronic devices have been seized and analysed, and over 29,500 hours of CCTV footage from multiple locations are currently being examined.

Gardaí continue to liaise with Tusla, the child and family agency, in connection with the investigation.

Gardaí have also stated that Tusla was previously misled into believing that Kyran was alive.

The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigation Officer based at an incident room at Drogheda Garda Station.

Authorities have warned the public not to rely on rumours, speculation, or theories circulating online.

“An Garda Síochána continue to appeal to the public, notwithstanding all the information that is in the public domain, to not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”

They added that investivations are “ongoing.”

“The Garda investigation team can be contacted at Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or through any Garda Station.”
