Garda Commissioner announces review of ministers' drivers
The Garda Commissioner has confirmed that a reduction in the number of gardaí driving ministers is being considered.
THE GARDA COMMISSIONER Martin Callinan has said that a review of the number of gardaí allocated to drive ministers’ cars is due to take place.
Speaking at the graduation of 126 new gardaí at the Garda College in Templemore, Callinan said that no decision had yet been made about reducing the number of gardaí driving ministers, justice ministers, and former Taoisigh around, RTÉ reports.
He also addressed the revelation that there has been a 40 per cent reduction in the number of people found to have been drink driving last year, saying that he believed the change stemmed from a shift in cultural attitudes.
However he added that he was concerned about increasing drug use – and particularly the number of cases of cannabis grow houses.
