A FILM ABOUT the inspirational life of Professor Stephen Hawking has, unsurprisingly, been described as “uplifting” by the organisers of the Cambridge Film Festival which screened the documentary for the first time this evening.

The man himself, who narrates his own story, attended the gala screening and took part in a Q&A session at the Cambridge Picture House.

Hawking charts his tragic diagnosis, aged 21, of Motor Neurone Disease; his meeting with wife Jane, who helped rescue him from depression; his ground-breaking work on black holes and the origins of the universe; and his rise to international fame and scientific super-stardom.

The film goes on general release in the UK tomorrow. Tonight’s event was also shown life at the Light House Cinema in Dublin.
